N if for Nymphs. The nymphs appeared in Greek and Latin mythology as minor nature deities with winged sandals. They were originally depicted as young females and associated with various locations, such as a forest or lake. More recently nymphs appear in literature as male, female and even asexual creatures, small in stature, and rather fey. See also sprite.
